The Pleasures of the Imagination

For me the discussion got interesting in the second half of this article. It’s about how our imaginations powerfully impact our experience. Fiction delivers a powerful emotional experience because of how it’s crafted–compacted timeframe, edited for interest, characters are wittier/more alert than real life, etc. We know fiction is fiction, but we saturate our minds in its colours. We know it’s not true intellectually, but our bodies respond as if the experience is real. An addictive encounter with virtual reality co-created by ourselves as readers.
