Author brands — great advice from Author Rescue — not that I’m successfully applying it myself. Oh wait … this rambling, curious mix of topics and styles is me. Oops.

Are you an author? Let Jane from Dear Author strike fear and trembling into your heart, too, with all the things authors do wrong with their websites.

A final word on publicity and promotion from Patricia Wrede (who has written some of my favourite fantasies).

Finally, my two cents in response to reading these bits of excellent advice: Readers expect (and should expect) professionalism, or at minimum, courtesy, from the authors demanding some of their time. I hope I do courtesy. I’m aiming at professionalism — swift response to questions, information provided clearly, everything I can think of. But…like so many authors, putting myself forward socially is scary. I’m an introvert. So, if you do see me wandering around the Net, please say something friendly. I swear, you have no idea how much a crumb of friendliness means to an author 🙂

  1. Believe it or not I am very quiet around people I don't know. That's because I listen more than talk around new people so I can get a feel for what they're like.

But what you said is exactly why I go out of my way to say hi and ask people about their books. I know how hard it is, and you can see the relief on their faces when someone finally treats them like a human being instead of a leper.

    • So true! People like a friendly conversation … just shy about starting it. Thank heavens for conversation adept people like yourself 🙂
