DSDU Halloween 2nd Anniversary Blog Hop

“Welcome to the Darkside!”

It seems ages since the dauntless divas of the Darkside tapped a vampire on the incisors with a stake, pushed aside a slavering were-wombat and made me welcome on their group blog. But they did and ever since I’ve enjoyed the fun and supportive community over there. We’re all writers and readers of Australia’s best speculative romance. Today is a special celebration. We’re two years old, toddling into terrible trouble but doing so in style.

Which (because my brain is a weird place) makes me think of Scooby Doo rushing into trouble for a Scooby Snack. Scooby Doo is perhaps my favourite cartoon (although Inspector Gadget, Looney Tunes and Shrek give him great competition).

For your chance to win a digital copy of my latest Steampunk tale, Courting Trouble, please leave a comment on this post telling me your favourite cartoon.

The Rules of this Blog Hop:

To be eligible to win a prize on the blogs, the reader must do as what’s instructed on each blog by 11.59pm 4th November Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

To be eligible to win the Amazon voucher, the participants must comment on each participating blog. Only one comment needed. Multiple comments will be ignored for the purposes of the contest.

Have fun!

  1. And the winner of a digital copy of "Courting Trouble" is … Flanagan! Congratulations 🙂

I'll send you an email so you can pick epub or pdf.

  2. Oh, I loved Top Cat, too. He was too cool for words. I loved Tom and Jerry and Buds and Daffy, too.

    Thanks,

  3. My favourite Cartoon is the Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry. The old ones. I don't particularly like what they've done to them now 🙂

  4. Ohh that's hard. Could be Garfield, or Tweety Bird ohh and don't forget Wiley Coyete. I'm actually going to go for a comic though (I still think of it as a cartoon). Footrot Flats and Dog in particular. These are a iconic NZ comic series.

  5. Ahh see that is easy… G Force! I loved the fact that the girl would wear a swan like cape and it wasn't just the guys getting the bad guys!

    Happy Halloversary!

    • Rocky and Bullwinkle are proving really popular.

No one's mentioned the Disney cartoons … I'm thinking of the library in Beauty and the Beast … *want*

  6. Snap!

I love Scooby Doo:) He was always so scared, and somehow kept running into ghosts. He's also very cute, and loveable. I've just had a thought, maybe all the hours of watching Scooby helped me write on the dark side, and about characters who are scared! Shhh! (Secret Squirrel) 😉 Another fav.

  7. Oh, cartoons!!! Yay! Can you tell I loved cartoons as a kid…actually still do. But Scooby Doo was one of my all time faves – as was the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies of Warner Brothers, as well as Hanna Barbera's Wacky Races…. So much fun!

Then there were the super hero cartoons…including Justice League of America and Fantastic 4, The Avengers et al….

A favourite? Are you kidding? 🙂

  8. I used to love watching Scooby Doo too!!! Just lately I've been seeing it on the TV again. I was eating lunch with my son the other day and was trying to figure out whether we were watching an original from way back when or a new one. So, I'm saying this as, on the screen, one of the characters is using a mobile phone. And it took 5 minutes for either of us to realise. Duh! Not going to live that one down 🙂

    • Scooby Doo forever!

I don't know if you've read Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series, but when her vampire is intro'd with a Scooby bus, I just *know* he's a good guy 🙂

  9. So many to choose from but the very first that came to mind was Batfink and his sidekick Karate – I think mainly because I had an undiagnosed dose of irony/sarcasm at a young age and loved that the cartoon spoofed the TV series Batman and Green Hornet without realising what the attraction was. Isn't maturity (yeahhh! right!!) and hindsite wonderful?

  10. Hi Jenny,

It's hard to pick a favourite when it seems I've been watching cartoon type movies/TV programmes for years! But if I had to pick one I'd have to say 'The Simpsons' (Doh!).

    Enjoyed your post! 🙂

    • Ooh, Garfield! I can quote my favourite ever bit of Garfield wisdom:

"Diet is just die with a t" 🙂

Thanks for dropping in, Linda, and good luck!

    • Rocky and Bullwinkle started me thinking how vital the ABC here in Australia is to our cartoon viewing memories – Danger Mouse, Inspector Gadget and … I almost forgot Count Duckula!

Thanks for the kind words, Michael, and for dropping in 🙂

  11. Oooh, just one cartoon? Sorry I can't do it, there are too many to choose from? When I was a kid I loved Secret Squirrel, Atom Ant, Danger Mouse, G-Force and Looney Tunes. As for recent ones, Shrek is brilliant but I also have a soft spot for How to Tame Your Dragon, just because the dragon reminds me of my cat and dog (if they were mashed together in one animal). Don't get me started on anime…. I love anything by Studio Ghibli.

Thanks for making me realize what a cartoon tragic I am Jenny 🙂 Great post.

    • I can't believe I forgot Danger Mouse! Thank goodness you popped in Peta 🙂 I haven't seen How To Tame Your Dragon. It sounds really good…

    • Hi Nas 🙂

Some of the posts (okay, all of them!) put my quick note to shame. Imogene Nix has a fab post all about Halloween. Happy reading! and I hope you win some of the great prizes!

      • I commented when I saw your call for help on twitter! But it works fine now!

My fav is Shrek- as I used to watch it a lot with GD. I visited Disneyland recently and it was like a girlish dream come true for me! All the lovely Disney Princesses!
