Australia Day Book Giveaway Blog Hop

australiadaybloghop

I’m thrilled to be part of the Australia Day Book Giveaway Blog Hop hosted by Book’d Out and Confessions from Romaholics.

My Australia Day celebrations include gifting one lucky person anywhere in the world a stash of Australian art bookmarks and a digital copy of my Australia Day short romance, Mistaken Engagement. Just leave a comment for your chance to win.

Australia Day celebrates a lot of things. Over at the Dark Side DownUnder blog (post goes live Australia Day, 26 Jan), I talk about how it celebrates community, mateship. Australia Day also celebrates summer. Seasonal celebrations are something we’ve divorced ourselves from a bit, what with air conditioning, central heating and foods available all year around in supermarkets. There is a real joy in taking time to look up at a blue summer sky and acknowledge how lucky we are.

Australia used to be called the Lucky Country. Usage of the title has grown increasingly ironic, but a fundamental truth underlies it. We are lucky because we are free. Australia Day celebrates our freedom.

We are free to pursue our dreams, to love who we will, to air our opinions (sometimes I wonder about this particular freedom! 😉 ) and to build lives that reach out to embrace everyone.

We are free! and for that alone, wherever you are in the world, join us in celebrating Australia Day.

Saul knows he crossed the line when he claimed a surprise engagement with Grace. But her hysterical denial – and the way she’s avoided him ever since – has made things awkward, but it can all be worked out. The Australia Day long weekend down at her family’s beach house is the perfect time to show everyone that they’re friends, with not a broken heart between them. But can a fake engagement become life-changingly real?

  1. I love this moment!

… and the winner is MIKI!

Miki, I'll send you an email to sort out the details. Congratulations 🙂

Thanks, everyone, for joining the blog hop to celebrate Australia Day. Hope you had a great one!

  2. Hello Jenny, thanks for letting me enter the competition. Freedom..very interesting notion isn't it. Often tried to define it myself and test it, the Australian brand… all the best, Joe Jeney

    • Joe, it's such a difficult question. People seem to struggle with it every Australia Day — and then, there's Tourism Australia who I think got it wrong with Laura Bingle 🙂 But the friendliness shown on this blog hop, I think that's very Aussie 🙂 Thanks for dropping in.

  3. Australians can still live in, "The Lucky Country," I think that it is about overcoming our obstacles, hungering to succeed, and perseverence.

  4. I don't think I've ever read a book set within the Australia day Weekend, and yet I've noticed that I haven't at the same time! Looks like a fantastic giveaway, I would love to win you book 🙂

    • Hi Jess, I'm hoping next year there'll be a few Australia Day stories. I really enjoy themed to the occasion stories. Thanks for dropping in 🙂

  5. I didn't know we had Aussie writers doing steampunk! Fantastic (and noted for future reference)!

    Thanks for doing the giveaway!

    • Ooh Catherine, don't get me started on Aussies and steampunk! Bec McMaster has a great new series of steampunk London with vampires and Coleen Kwan just released her final Asher novella that has one of the best time travel plots I've read. Then there's Annie Seaton whose steampunk is steamy. Plus New Zealanders Pip Ballentine and Tee Morris (we'll adopt them, like Pharlap) and um, I guess I should stop now 🙂

    • Hope so! I had fun writing it. I hadn't really stopped to think about what I celebrated on Australia Day before then. Now I know it's family, friends, fun and community. Like that 🙂

  6. Hope you're having a great day – beautiful and funny, just a little bit warm. Hopefully the fireworks can be seen from my part of the suburbs!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    • I just saw some fireworks through the dark silhouette of trees — in between convincing the dog the world wasn't ending. Poor fellow.

      Thanks for popping in 🙂

  7. Happy Australia Day, Jenny. Your book sounds really interesting. I'd love to read it.

    • I hope you have the BEST Australia Day, Marg 🙂

I'm loving this blog hop. So much fun hopping around. Wish I could afford bookmarks (and postage!) for everyone … one day!

  10. Wow, your book looks wonderful and bookmarks are always super handy to have around. Thank you for your generosity, happy Australia day!

  11. so many australian books i don't even know about that I'm discovering on this book hop.

    Happy Australia Day!

    • Margaret, Shelleyrae is brilliant to have come up with this blog hop. I'm having lots of fun encountering new blogs and books. Happy weekend!

    • Hi Jennie

I'm popping over to visit with you. Give me two ticks, then get out the lamingtons 😉 Hope you have a lovely long weekend!

    • Happy Australia Day, Maria! I'm sending you some of how sunshine 🙂

Actually, I'm planning a really quiet weekend. Heatwave's starting — yuk! — and air con sounds appealing. Plus some paw-holding since my dog freaks a bit at fireworks.

  12. I've already got your book on my TBR pile but wanted to comment anyway. So great of you to write an Aussie Day story!
