Brown bears in France

Reintroducing species to areas where they’ve vanished is difficult, never more so than when people are justifiably wary of the species. I’d certainly be cross if someone reintroduced red back spiders to what they consider their natural habitat–the underside of the outside rubbish bin lid. Yes, I know I’m being frivolous. This is a good news story. All the European fairytales insist that forests have bears. But the reality is sharing wild space is a fraught issue. Like reintroducing wolves into parts of the USA.
