A New Series… Coming Soon… The Faerene Apocalypse

Stray Magic – out last week in January (no pre-order link, sorry)

When magic crashes through the Rift, Earth devolves into an apocalyptic nightmare. Survival becomes the only game in town, and college girl, Amy Carlton, learns she’s a more ruthless player than she ever imagined.

Magistrate Istvan signed up for the Faerene Migration knowing that the price of Earth’s future would be paid for in hellfire and blood. But the black griffin hadn’t anticipated humans accessing magic.

Now, a new and impossible bond must be forged between a Faerene invader and a human familiar. But first Istvan and Amy must survive to form the bond.

*Note: “Faerene” refers to the many peoples of another world: the griffins, dragons, unicorns, werewolves, elves and ogres who’ve crossed to Earth. No prepper or survivalist could have been prepared for their arrival.

Bound Magic – out March 28 (pre-order link when Stray Magic goes live)

Loyal Magic – mid 2019

Predictions for 2019

I promised in a previous post that if I had any guesses for publishing trends in 2019 I’d share them. These are wild guesses. I can’t back them up with data. But here goes:

Religious Fiction – and not the gently inspirational kind. Urban fantasy and paranormal romance have been using gods and divine beings from various pantheons for a while now, but I think there’s a good chance that this will push fully into engaging with the stories of living faiths in 2019. There is a lot of selling power in breaking taboos! Sex and violence; religious stories reinvented and/or recast in the contemporary world

Circular/Second Chance Romance – I can’t think of the term for these stories. Basically, the heroine meets and refuses the hero in the opening scene, then goes on a journey that brings her full circle back to the same choice she faced initially, and this time she says yes. My idea for this one is based on the caged/kidnap romances that are extremely popular right now. The idea seems to be that the heroine finds happiness when she submits to the man’s wisdom (for lack of a better, and still polite, word). I actually think this subgenre could be fascinating in exploring ideas of success, happiness, and relationship dynamics.

Soap Operas in Space – this has to happen in 2019! These are books of excess – sex, violence, drama, intrigue. Hedonistic utopias with scheming humans, exotic aliens, and a chance to explore what we both fear and desire in contemporary society in a sci-fi setting.

  1. Your new trilogy looks exciting, Jenny. 🙂

It will be interesting to see how your predictions go. I’m not sure of the caged/kidnapped part, but I do like the thought of a second chance at romance. 🙂
