Imagining Heaven

A couple of years ago I wrote an essay on imagining heaven. It seemed to me, as a fiction author, that there was a big gap in popular culture for alternative visions of heaven. Angels and harps are soooo Victorian. Having re-imagined heaven, I then gave in to shyness and published the essay under a pen name. It turns out that imagining heaven is quite a personal endeavour, and possibly explains why people don’t discuss their views on the afterlife.

However, with the current pandemic I’ve decided that sharing the essay as me is something positive that I can do. Feeling helpless is one of the blue-mood aspects of the pandemic and its containment strategies. Resistance/defiance is about reaching out however we can.

So this is a personal essay from me to you, and to whoever you choose to share it with. You can read Heaven. Imagine the Possibilities on my website, link: https://authorjennyschwartz.com/heaven/ or you can download it to read on your ereader: https://claims.prolificworks.com/free/KHxmn8wX

What waits for us after death?

Imagine an eternity filled with experiences that develop you in ways you can only dimly perceive on earth. You will dream among ancient rocks, commune with angels, explore multiverses, or do none of those things. Your heaven is as unique as you are.

  1. I loved it! I especially like the idea that one of my fur kids could be my guide. Tank would get lost, but that’s okay. We can get lost together. 🙂

    Thank you for sharing this.

    • Maria, you just made my heart squeeze! – good thing – happy shivers – when you said you and Tank would get lost together. I so believe that! That love never ends.

  2. There is a story in Judaism about the man who dies and finds himself in a “heaven” surrounded by angels in a beautiful field with the sounds of singing. He finds another soul and asks him what this place is. That soul says I am in heaven. Well said the man what do you do all day. The soul said we enjoy the beauty of nature and the sounds of God’s heavenly chorus. Well said the man that sounds boring not my kind of place at all. How can you say this is heaven. The soul looked at him and said: I am in heaven, you are in hell.

    • Bari, wow! I didn’t see that ending coming … but it’s true, isn’t it? You’ve given me something to think about – thank you!
