Blurb Help! Cosmic Catalyst is nearly here.

It feels like ages since I last chatted with you. Trying to catch up with things after my fall has sent me into a kind of hermit existence with occasional forays onto Facebook and Twitter. But the good news is that Cosmic Catalyst (sequel to Her Robot Wolf) should be out next week!!! So all my hard work and anti-social behaviour is worth it 🙂

I’m just finalising its blurb and I’m hoping you can help with that. How does this work for you? Any suggestions for changes?

Draft Blurb

Everyone has secrets. But some people will risk the galaxy to protect theirs.

When starship shaman Jaya Romanov and her new mate partner, galactic bounty hunter and robot wolf shifter Vulf Trent, saved the galaxy from the deadly actions of a determined geriatric terrorist, they forgot that old Earth truism: no good deed goes unpunished.

Now, the galaxy is exploding with unexpected aliens, greedy politicians—well, that’s normal enough, it’s what the politicians will attempt that is worrying—and a radically new aspect to sha energy that has the potential to change everything.

And then there’s the mystery of Jaya’s father…who is he? Some big secrets are lurking in Jaya’s past, and to save those she loves, she’ll be forced to risk the galaxy in a shoot ’em up, take-no-prisoners rescue because sometimes there’s no fighting your destiny.

Fortunately, Vulf is always ready for a fight!

And now I have to return to my hermit cave. While I was resting up – stupid sprained ankle! – an unexpected story idea came to me. As soon as I can squeeze in the time to finish it, you’ll get a bonus story. Raid. A Futuristic Romance may yet spawn its own Kidnapped Brides series of short romances. Details soon!

  1. I’m STILL fiddling with the blurb. All this indecision is stressful! I’m almost tempted to make a single change – one comma!

    “…robot wolf shifter, Vulf Trent…”

Maybe it’s just me, but that one comma seems to slow down the sentence and made it more comprehensible???

  2. So looking forward to your next book, Jenny. Have missed seeing you, so I hope that ankle of yours is behaving itself, and you’re shipshape and sailing right again soon.

I agree Vulf’s title was a bit of a stretch, though it certainly describes him, but I bow to your expertise. 🙂

    1. D, you’re back!! So lovely to “see” you again 🙂

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with Vulf’s title. Thinking, thinking. I’m so grateful for everyone’s insight and suggestions.

It’s been interesting to be stuck hobbling. I’ve always thought I hated exercise, but being unable to walk around the neighbourhood parks has been frustrating – especially since this is the perfect time of year for walking. Not too hot, not too cold. Although I could do without the burn-off smoke!

      1. I have no doubt you’ll find the solution, Jenny. 🙂

I hope you’re not hobbling for much longer.

I agree it’s a great time to be out. I’ve visited both Kings Park and the Aruluen Gardens since we last chatted. Just beautiful. 🙂

  3. How the heck did you sprain your ankle?

    re: blurb
I think the second paragraph runs on too much. Maybe break it up into separate thoughts???

I’d also like to have the secret spelled out so I get a sense of gravitas.

    1. Ooh! Good suggestions – thanks, Maria 🙂

As for the ankle… so embarrassing. Simply fell down the one step from the back door and caused all kinds of scrapes, bruises and this stupid lingering sprained ankle. At least I didn’t break my elbow, which was what I initially feared.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth! I’m not sure if authors normally say this or not about a new book, but “Me, too!” It’s been forever getting this book finished.

  4. I love the blurb. I was trying to think of a way to shorten the descriptors to “her new mate partner, galactic bounty hunter and robot wolf shifter Vulf Trent” this really does describe him. Maybe “Following mating withRobot Wolf Shifter and Galactic Bounter hunter, Vulf Trent, Starship Shaman Jaya Romanov deserved a break. After all, they saved they just saved the galaxy from a deadly plot by a geriatric terroist. Too bad they forgot that old Earth truism, no good dead goes unpunished, now instead of going on a honeymoon they need to partner up again.”. Then continue as written. Though honestly I love the blurb, so no changes are needed, and I can’t wait to read the story!

    1. Michelle – yeah…I was worried about that long descriptor for Vulf. Thanks for the suggestion of a different approach. I will work on it! Hope you enjoy the story next week 🙂
